Man's laws are legislated by man and are changeable while God's laws are legislated by God and are UNCHANGEABLE, ever since God established them as revealed in His Holy Word the Bible. Just and righteous laws should not be transgressed and when it comes to God's laws, transgression has eternal consequences.
WHAT IS SIN?
God defines Sin as the breaking of His law that is written in the Bible, the inerrant Word of God. God's law is absolute and above man's law because God alone is perfect, holy and righteous. There is none on earth and in heaven that is above Him (Ps 95:3). The Bible uses the words 'law, commandment, decree and statute' at various times in their respective context. These denote God's red line that man should not cross. The moment God's written law is violated, man has sinned.
SIN BEGETS SIN
Every person is born into Sin (Rom 5:12). The sinful nature presents fertile ground for sinful thoughts to take root which can give rise to more Sin. All Sin described in the Bible is present in society today.
Today, the world is much more knowledgeable, intellectual, scientific and technologically advanced. It is supposedly more civilized than previous generations but human morality has regressed. This is simply because the existence of God is increasingly being denied (atheism) or people look to God primarily for His blessings but will not truly bow to Him and submit to His righteous and holy laws and His ways. Man has fallen to new lows and it is being played out in movies, music, online and in man's lifestyles. Just as in the days of Noah before God wiped out the entire world except for Noah and his family, lawlessness will be at its worst just before Christ's Second Coming.
2 Tim 3 describes a picture of the perilous last days when "men shall be lovers of their own selves," (2 Tim 3:2) and "lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God" (2 Tim 3:4). How evident that these, just two of many sins in a long list of sins has come to pass. It will become so bad that the world's sins pile high and "have reached unto heaven" (Rev 18:5).
Man idolizes man and has placed himself above God. In a March 1966 interview, John Lennon at the height of Beatlemania said, "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that; I'm right and I'll be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first, rock and roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary."
That was not the comment of just one man and what he believed. Today, the 'Nones' ie. the 'not religiously affiliated' in the US, once the bedrock of Christianity, is at an all-time high and Pew Research has projected the trajectory to get worse. Celebrity worship and human idolatry has been around for decades. Today, the internet and social media have fueled idolatry and even in some churches, this sadly exists.
Man is totally in love with himself, pursues carnal pleasures and self-indulgences to the max. He wants to satisfy his own wants first, at the expense of other people’s well-being and feelings (Rom 1:25). Observe society at large and ask yourself, "Does this describe human behavior and attitudes today that has become the new normal?"
The majority of people will say that they are not like the man in the picture; prideful, self-absorbed, covetous and difficult to satisfy. The world is now at his wealthiest and this is driven by the very traits that people deny are found within them. Love of money (1 Tim 6:10), covetousness (Luke 12:15) and discontent (1 Tim 6:6) has driven people to want more and more. It is simply a catch-22. The many temptations of life are not so easy to ignore.
Many people think that they are 'good' and will go to heaven but we have yet to meet someone who has never told a lie. James 2:10 writes that just one 'small' Sin breaks God's entire law. This carries a spiritual death sentence. Even the best of people, whatever their age, will inevitably think a thought or carry out an action that is Sin in God’s eyes (Rom 3:23).
