GP5. God is holy, perfect and righteous and therefore, is His law.

Man views Sin as a regrettable offence. God sees Sin as a transgression of His holy and righteous law. When by our sinful acts we break His law, we are without a doubt, found guilty and must be judged for it.

Key Points

  • Man's law is designed by fallen man and will always fall short of God's holy and righteous standards.
  • God's law exposes Sin for what it is. With God's law, man is guilty of transgression and must be judged.

The Word

  • "You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness." Habakkuk 1:13
  • "For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;" Rom 2:12

Description

MAN HAS LAWS

Why are laws even necessary if man claims to be good and can self-govern. Without laws, society will fall apart. No one will stand in a queue to wait his turn, motorists will exceed the speed limit in a school zone, students can bribe their way through college and we can litter as we please. The majority of us will therefore agree that laws MUST exist for the common good.

That is where appointed governments and authorities come into the picture. Man writes and legislates laws. Laws exist to determine what is permissible and what is not. Society will fall apart if there are no laws at every level of life. Parents set laws in their homes for the kids. Moms set laws prohibiting dads from smoking in the home. The education board has laws governing schools. Employers have laws governing the workplace and law enforcement officials carry out the laws in the community, and so forth. We don't like all the laws and would occasionally break one of them but we will admit that the good and beneficial laws must be in place.

We personally also institute laws by which we live. We call these values and we will not cross certain red lines of thought, action and behavior. Ultimately, man knows that laws are vital to keep people in check. If there are no concrete consequences when laws are broken, they will have little or no effect and society will spiral into lawlessness. Judgments can range from community service, fine or imprisonment through to capital punishment for the most extreme cases. So what we can see is that law and judgment are both necessary to work together. One cannot exist without the other. After all, what is a law without 'teeth', deterrance, judgment and punishment?

GOD HAS LAWS

Deists believe that God created the world and then left mankind to manage and be responsible for their actions and face the consequences, good and bad, while Atheists do not believe in God at all.

It is written in the Bible that God, the Creator of planet earth and man, has established a universal set of laws and statutes that apply to ALL man throughout mankind’s history. The movie The Ten Commandments brought to the big screen, God’s law, first written for Israel to set it apart from its neighboring idol worshippers. God's law is a reflection of His holiness (Ps 97:2); pure, righteous and justified. It is impossible for man in his fallen and sinful state to fulfill God's law. When man breaks His law, which goes far beyond just the Ten Commandments, and covers every aspect of human lifestyle, thought and behavior, God is justified as the ultimate Judge to require man to give account (Rom 2:12) because only He is perfect, pure and without sin. God's law and God's judgment are both necessary as two sides of the same coin (1 Tim 1:8-10). After all, what is God's law without 'teeth', deterrance, judgment and punishment?

MAN WANTS LAWS BUT JUST NOT GOD'S

All man are sinners and this includes born-again Christians because Sin is embedded in the flesh and cannot be removed (Rom 7:14-25).

Man in his rebellious state loves Sin and does everything he can to normalize it (Gal 5:17). Therefore, people in power and authority continue to pass man-made laws to override God’s law and diminish Sin to make it palatable (Isa 5:20). Sins stated in the Bible are no longer considered Sins in today's society. Man promotes society as 21st century, modern and progressive, and deems a 2,000 year old text as archaic, ancient, irrelevant and not keeping up with changing times.

Even for those who profess to be believers but lean towards 'progressive' Christianity, Scripture is interpreted to conform to man’s carnal view of God (1 John 2:16). In order to evade his conscience (Rom 2:14-15) man leans on the assertion that "God is love" (1 John 4:16) and reasons that a loving God will not condemn man and send people to hell. However, the truly loving side of God is borne out of His hatred of Sin because Sin causes untold destruction to the soul and everything that it touches
