Description

GOD SENT JESUS TO RECONCILE SINNERS UNTO HIMSELF

Some 2,000 years ago, God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to be the Son of Man, the last Adam (1 Cor 15:45-47). Jesus grew up like every other child in His local neighborhood. He walked amongst man as a man but He was the only man without Sin in the entire history of mankind. Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb of God is the means for man to be forgiven, redeemed and subsequently transformed to a glorious state fit for the New Heaven and the New Earth (Rev 21:1) to come.

LIFE IS FOUND IN THE BLOOD

Medically, we are alive because of a protein called haemoglobin in the red blood cells that deliver life-giving oxygen to every inch of the human body. That is why, when a person bleeds, it is critical to stop the bleeding in order to keep the person alive.

The blood of fallen man just like the rest of his flesh is 'spiritually corrupt and contaminated'. It does not contain and therefore does not deliver spiritual life. The body of a sinner is without life to sustain his Soul for eternity. That is why the aging process begins from the moment of birth until such a time when the body slows down and can no longer be sustained. Even the healthiest amongst us will age and pass away and shown to be as mortal as the next person.

For us to attain life for eternity in God's Kingdom, the Lord must resurrect us in Christ so that we are born again as a 'new creation' (2 Cor 5:17) filled with 'new life-giving blood' in Christ that (Joel 3:21) that nourishes the soul and sustains it for eternal life.

MAN IS MADE UP OF THREE PARTS - SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY

Picture a man as having an 'Inner Core', a 'Processor' and an 'Outer Suit'.

SPIRIT - starting with the 'Inner Core', man is created by God to be a spirit being (Eccl 12:7). The spirit and soul of man is the breath of God in him that gives him life (Job 33:4).

Just as God is Spirit, so is man a spirit being. Just as God is eternal, so will the spirit of man live forever, whether in Heaven or the Lake of Fire. However, an unredeemed sinner's spirit is dead in Sin and is separated from God forever. The spirit of man needs to be re-born of the Spirit of God (Rom 6:4) and made alive in Christ to enter heaven.

SOUL - simply stated, the soul is made in God's image. Man is given a brain and a heart to have physical and emotional experiences. Using his brain and his heart, man can process every situation he is faced with. Man can reason and feel at the same time; rationalize, evaluate, reason, deliberate, decide and make ethical and moral choices, unlike animals, insects and other living things.

The soul of a sinner is dead in Sin. Even as one of the most devout Christians in the history of the church, Paul struggled with Sin as he kept doing what he should not (Rom 7:14-15). That is why our soul needs to undergo the Holy Spirit's sanctifying work (1 Thess 5:23) and work out our salvation (Phi 2:12).

BODY - what we see is the physical body and this is also made in God's image as an 'Outer Suit' to house man's spirit and soul. The body has many 'tools, features and moving parts' that enable man to exist and function in the physical world that God has created. Man is constantly processing 'data' received through God-given senses such as sight, hearing and taste, and expresses these in thought and action.

The body is dead in Sin (Eph 2:1) and this also explains Paul's struggle of doing what he hated (Rom 7:18-20). The body is mortal and aging every second. It is subject to flaws and imperfections, a consequence of his fallen nature, that is the cause of various physical, medical and psychological issues as we know them.

The Good News is that repentant sinners can be redeemed in Christ and one day, be raised with glorified bodies just like Christ (Luke 24:39-40) that will be perfect and incorrupted (1 Cor 15:53-54) to be with God in the Millennial Kingdom and thereafter, as the glorious citizens of the New Earth and New Heaven. Picture a coming time when Sin and every manifestation of Sin such as the common cold, cancer, tiredness, stress, sorrow, disappointments, pride, envy and lust will be a thing of the past, never to return.

In the next topic GP8, we will review the various ways that man tries to seek redemption for their sins. We will also reason with you that the only acceptable payment for Sin was Jesus' crucifixion and shed blood. Everything else that man has tried will not satisfy God's judgment and wrath against Sin.
