Mankind began when God created Adam and Eve. Fast forward several thousand years and the day of reckoning will come when Jesus will return to set up His 1,000-year Millennial Kingdom here on earth. After that, He will sit on the Great White Throne to judge EVERY person throughout the history of mankind for how they have lived their lives. Every soul is a sinner and those that are not saved in Christ through His atoning blood on the Cross, will find that their sins are not forgiven and they will forever be separated from God to face His righteous wrath in the Lake of Fire. This is also the final, eternal place of torment for Satan and the fallen angels, the beast of Revelation and the false prophet.

We already understand the concept of a king and his throne in ancient times by reading history, watching the movies and TV documentaries. No one is higher than the king of a kingdom and his words could not be challenged and the lives of his subjects were in his hands. He did not need to explain to anyone his actions and neither was he held accountable by anyone. His commands were final and absolute.
Jesus will return as King to earth for the second time, in what is called the Second Coming of Christ. He is equal to God in the Trinity, having divine authority and power. That is why the Bible writes that He is God above all gods, King above all kings and Lord above all lords (Rev 19:16).
The first time Jesus came was a man but without sin. He was crucified on the Cross to become a propitiation for our sins and his accomplished work defeated spiritual death. That is why, those who repent and believe in Jesus as their Savior, will attain spiritual life. In Jesus’ resurrection, believers are also resurrected with Him into eternal life.
The King will rule from Jerusalem, yes the very same Jerusalem in modern day Israel, for a thousand years. This is called the Millennial Kingdom of Christ. His heavenly throne will be manifested here on earth and He will enlist His saints in their resurrected 'physical' bodies, to govern "the sheep" (read 'MK2. Who enters the Millennial Kingdom and why are they chosen by Jesus?'), were witnesses for Christ during the Great Tribulation and had rejected the satanic beast and his '666' mark.
At the end of Christ’s Millennial rule, He will judge the works of ALL people through time except those who have already been found righteous in their faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Old Testament and those who are born again in Jesus as their Lord and Savior from the time of His First Coming. Their names are found in the Lamb's Book of Life and they will have a place in the New Heaven and New Earth, the eternal dwelling place of the Lord.
Jesus as King will judge from His throne known in the Bible as the Great White Throne. 'Great' and 'Throne' is self-explanatory and we won’t discuss them here. The term ‘White’ represents the purity, holiness and righteousness of God that will be the standard and measure of the judgment that will be carried out.
Every soul from Day 1 of creation through to that point in time of the Great White Throne judgment, will stand before Jesus Christ to give account of their life. They will be judged for EVERYTHING – their thoughts, their emotions, their speech and their actions in life - and will be found to be guilty of breaking God’s laws and statutes as written in the Bible.
This is the last and final time when the Lord sits to judge. All the ungodly through time are spiritually lost and by their very own sin and rejection to be saved in Christ, have damned themselves into the eternal Lake of Fire.
Version 23.1.0
Sno | Verses | Remarks |
1 | "1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, "3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." Rev 20:1-3 | God is all-powerful over all His created beings and Satan is no exception. The Lord directs a regular angel, not even the archangel Michael, to bind the dragon with a chain for a thousand years and cast him into the bottomless pit. This takes place BEFORE the Great White Throne Judgment, the day when Jesus will judge everyone since the first man Adam. |
2 | "4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the Word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." Rev 20:4-6 | Just as Satan is cast into the bottomless pit, thrones appear to 'judge' the martyrs for Christ and those who stood fearlessly against the beast of Revelation to the point of death. They are rewarded and will be resurrected in what is called the First Resurrection. These souls will be given 'physical' bodies to rule as priests with Christ from Jerusalem in the thousand-year Millennial Kingdom reign on earth. There will be only one religion across the world that is instituted by Christ. The priests of God will be immortal and subsequently enter eternal life in the New Heaven and New Earth. |
3 | "7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." Rev 20:7-9 |
God will release Satan AFTER the thousand years and allow him to deceive the citizens of the Millennial Kingdom. Even though the 'sheep' had experienced the Tribulation and saw the power of Christ and received His grace, thier descendants over tme will begin to resent the King. Murmurings begin in the heart and soon become dinner table conversations which then extend into the marketplace, workplace and everywhere people gather. Their descendants likewise, will do the same. Remember that for a thousand years, Satan is not around to deceive anyone. This shows that the inherent sin nature harbours a rebellious heart towards God. When a 'leader' comes along, they were ready. Picture hundreds of millions of people or even billions who will populate the Millennial Kingdom in a thousand years, coming from everywhere to encircle Christ and the saints in Jerusalem. They are deluded into believing that by their sheer number, they can overcome Christ and the saints. Such is their wickedness, they forget that Christ the King is the Almighty with fearsome power to destroy them with a single word. This final rebellion will be futile and in what will be the quickest battle in history, the so-called global rebellion is instantly devoured by fire from heaven. |
4 | "10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." Rev 20:10 | This time, the wicked commander-in-chief of the global rebellion will be cast into the Lake of Fire where the beast and false prophet of Revelation had been cast a thousand years earlier. They will be tormented beyond description for eternity by fire and brimstone. This is the same Lake of Fire into which all unsaved souls will be cast into and similarly tormented. |
5 | "11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. "15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Rev 20:11-13,15 "36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Matt 12:36-37 "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done." Rev 22:12 "For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man according to his works." Matt 16:27 |
After the thousand years of the Millennial Kingdom when the global rebellion against Christ is quelled, and Satan is cast into the Lake of Fire, Christ’s Great White Throne judgment takes place. Billions throughout mankind’s history until that point in time including those who lived during the Millennial Kingdom will stand before the throne. There are books in heaven that record every person’s works throughout their entire life – every thought, every emotion, every deed, every action and even every idle word spoken. It is important to emphasize that works do not save a person and so the records are really the documented evidence of all sin committed by the unsaved, who by their own works, are condemned to eternal death. However, there is the Lamb’s Book of Life which lists the names of sinners saved by grace, those who were found righteous in their faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Old Testament and those who are born again in Jesus as their Lord and Savior from the time of His First Coming. Christ in righteousness will judge them and those whose names are not in the Lamb's Book of Life will be found guilty in their sin and cast into the Lake of Fire. |
6 | "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Rev 21:8 "14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Rev 20:14 |
"The second death" refers to the final Lake of Fire. How is this different from Hell? At this very moment, even as you are reading this, there is a literal place called "Hell". It is a burning-hot 'holding area' of unsaved souls through time until the Great White Throne judgment takes place. That is when Hell gives up the souls of the spiritually dead (Rev 20:13). Hell is at the centre of our planet (Eph 4:9, Matt 12:40) where the temperature in the earth's core reaches 6,000°C or 10,800°F which scientists estimate to be 9% hotter than the sun’s surface. At the Great White Throne judgment after which there will be no more human beings alive in sin, God will have no further need of Hell and it will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Why is that so? The people who enter the Millennial Kingdom as its new citizens will be righteous "sheep" chosen by Jesus ('MK2. Who enters the Millennial Kingdom?') who at the same time, are rewarded with eternal life (Matt 25:46). Having said that, the descendants of "the sheep" during the 1,000 years will still possess the sin of Adam at birth and reject Christ the King that reigns over them. What about those who pass away during the 1,000 years? Jesus searches the hearts of everyone and knows those who reject Him. At the Great White Throne judgment, their names will not be found in the Lamb's Book of Life and they went to Hell to also be spewed out with every lost soul and then cast into the Lake of Fire. Rev 20:14, "the second death" refers to spiritual death that follows the first physical death of a person. At that point, the 'first death' was of no further use and hence, together with Hell, was cast into the Lake of Fire. |
