Mankind is doing all it can to save this planet, trying to save a drinking straw here and a plastic utensil there. While all these make for good stewardship and social responsibility, the deeper problem lies in man’s delusion that they are good. Without law and order, man is a law unto themselves and every person sees themself good in their own eyes.
Man does not want any divine oversight. What man wants is divine blessings; a safe journey, a bountiful harvest, success in their jobs, business and investments, good health and so forth. But when God says, “Worship Me and follow My Laws and Statutes”, man turns away with contempt. Gal 5:17 writes, "For the flesh (of man) lusts against the Spirit (of God), and the Spirit (of God) against the flesh (of man); and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish." (text added for explanation).
This is written to explain that throughout time, man’s rebellion and resistance towards God exists. That is why Jesus said in Matt 7:13-14, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Even then, no man can enter on his own because of his sin and needs the blood of Jesus to be the propitiation for his sin in order to enter.
The New Heaven and New Earth speak of a time AFTER the Great White Throne judgment of all souls and the end of mankind on this earth. God has set apart His elect, saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and will one day reside with them for eternity as their God.
The New Heaven and New Earth is created by God for this very purpose.

"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." Rev 21:1
"7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same Word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, … 12 wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" 2 Peter 3:7,10,11b,12 |
Planet earth as we know it and the sky above us, will not be destroyed by man or natural disasters, such as a nuclear war or climate change. It will be literally be an 'act of God'. Why will God destroy His very creation by His own hands? 2 Peter explains. Unlike the days of Noah when God flooded and drowned the whole earth except for Noah and his family, this time around, God starts over with sinless souls saved in Christ in God-given bodies. God will use fire to burn, melt and dissolve this earth and heaven which are spiritually corrupted and filthy. God’s holy people will live in a New Heaven and New Earth that is holy, pure and righteous, just like Him. |
2 | 9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal." Rev 21:2,9-11,15,16,23 |
New Jerusalem the holy city. The work of the seven angels having poured out the Lord’s vials of wrath is complete. One of them leads John in the spirit to witness New Jerusalem, a great and holy city, come down from heaven as the Lamb’s wife. The city is filled with God’s glory and no longer has a sun or moon as we know it. The city is bright lit with the pure light of the Lamb. It is a cubed city, the length, breadth and height are equivalent to 2,414 km or 1,500 miles. This is approximately half the width of the US but as a cubed city, it is a staggering 14 billion cubic meters of living space. |
3 | "3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful." "6 And He said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son." Rev 21:3-7 |
God of the city and of His people. Finally, God and His chosen will dwell together for eternity. All that was wrong with a sinful corrupt world, the one that we now reside in which death and sorrow and pain, will be no more. Sin is no more and all the manifestations of sin, will not even be remembered. Those who are saved in Christ become the eternal children of God in an awesome place with such happiness unlike anything that we have ever experienced. |
4 | "12 And had a wall great and high, … 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst." Rev 21:12,17-20 |
The foundations of the wall of the city. The magnificence of the wall and its 12 foundations speak of God’s tribute to the twelve apostles of Christ. We have for most part, not thought much about them and have forgotten most of their names but God wants us to know of His glorious purpose through twelve ordinary mean who were instrumental in bringing the Gospel to the nations. |
5 | "12 … and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there." Rev 21:12-13,21,25 |
The gates of the city. God also has the twelve names of the children of Jacob whose name was changed to Israel (Gen 32:28), written on the gates. They were His first chosen people by no other reason than His providence. |
6 | "22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. "8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Rev 21:8,21:22,24,26-27 |
The glory and holiness of the city. Rev 21:27 makes it crystal clear beyond any doubt, that only those who are saved in Christ and whose names therefore, are written in the Lamb’s book of life, will have a place in the city. |
