TR3. The Tribulation & Great Tribulation

The Tribulation is a 7 Jewish calendar year period. Together with the Great Tribulation occurring at its midpoint, it will be the worst time ever in the history of mankind. Let's take a look at why God has ordained for this to happen.

Key Points

  • The Tribulation including the Great Tribulation will be the worst 7-year period in mankind's history.
  • The 7-year Timeframe will accomplish Five Critical Outcomes

The Word

  • "1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him (John), to shew unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel unto His servant John: 2 Who bare record of the Word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. 3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." Rev 1:1-3

  • "Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book." Rev 22:7
  • "16 I Jesus have sent Mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Rev 22:16-20

  • "I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Rev 19:10

Description

We are already living in the Last Days. How do we know that? Heb 1:1-2 says that, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things (Matt 28:18), through whom also He made the worlds;" The Last Days began with Jesus’ ministry in His First Coming and ascension to the throne when He was resurrected after His crucifixion.

The Tribulation is an End Times event written in many Old Testament and New Testament books but it is in Revelation, the last and final of the 66 books of the Bible, that the most detailed description about these troubling times leading up to Christ's Second Coming can be found.

Many Christians do not wish to read Revelation for various reasons. Perhaps it is not taught in their home church, or it is deemed to be symbolic rather than literal, or it appears complicated and seems too difficult to understand, or that it will not take place in their lifetime.

Consider why Revelation is a must-read book from the Lord's perspective and is of great importance for the following reasons:

  1. The entire Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit but Revelation is a direct revelation from Jesus (Rev 19:10) of End Times prophetic events ordained by God. The one other time He spoke of these prophecies in great detail was in the Olivet Discourse in Matt 24:3-44, Mark 13:3-37 and Luke 21:7-36. Great is its importance that Jesus takes it upon Himself to deliver this message.
  2. The book of Revelation provides a detailed, complete and chronological account of the Tribulation and major End Times prophetic events in one book. All the 'missing pieces' to complete the big picture, not found in the other 65 books, are in Revelation.
  3. The entire Bible is a blessing to the reader but Revelation emphasizes, not once but twice, that the believer is blessed for reading, hearing and keeping those things which are written therein.
  4. This warning applies to the entire Bible but Revelation emphasizes an especially ominous warning that the plagues written in Revelation will befall the one who adds unto what is already written therein. There are people who might do so with evil intentions such as to deceive, mislead, blaspheme and mock, or for personal gain such as fame, recognition and wealth.
  5. The warning is magnified and writes "any man that shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

Even if Revelation is not taught in your home church, why is it even an entire book in the Bible and why would Jesus Himself reveal End Times events with such in-depth detail for our reading?

If Revelation is deemed to be symbolic and not literal, why would Christ warn us severely about adding to or taking away any text from Revelation?

If Revelation appears complicated and seems too difficult to understand, would the Lord make it so given that He wants to bless us for reading, hearing and keeping "those things which are written therein." (Rev 1:3,22:7)

If Revelation events do not take place in our lifetime, it could happen in our children's or our grand children's lifetime. Would it not be wise to do the best we can to better understand these events and prepare them for such a time when it does happen and for some reason, they will be around to face the Antichrist? Already we invest in their education and equip them with important life values and skills to better prepare them to face society's challenges?

This site and many online resources want to help you by raising awareness and aid in the revelation of End Times events. Learned teachers such as Ps John MacArthur at Grace To You provide excellent teaching on this subject.

We hope that the Word speaks to you of the significance of Revelation and you would heed what the Holy Spirit impresses upon you.

THE TRIBULATION JUDGMENT AND THE REDEMPTION OF THE JEWS

The Tribulation, Great Tribulation and the day of the Lord is an escalating set of God's End Times judgment to be unleashed upon an ungodly, unrepentant, unrighteous and Christ-rejecting world comprising both Jews and Gentiles. The Tribulation will be an unprecedented 7 Jewish calendar years in mankind's history when humanity's decadence and depravity reaches boiling point and God's judgment will be justly meted out.

From Tribulation's mid-point, the second half is called the Great Tribulation when the Antichrist begins his three and half year abominable reign. This is when the early part of the day of the Lord's wrath unfolds on the Antichrist, the False Prophet and the wicked world that follows them. God's response is not dissimilar to when He destroyed mankind in the global flood (Gen 6:5-7) because of man's great wickedness. God spared Noah, his wfe, his three sons and their wives who went on to re-populate the earth. God will spare those whose names are found in the Lamb's Book of Life.

The Tribulation, consisting of two equal halves, is also known as the time of Jacob's trouble (Jer 30:7) and Daniel's 70th week (Dan 9:24-27) for good reason. This is the time that God uses to turn a remnant of Jews to Jesus and redeems them for the Kingdom. That is why Tribulation prophecies are closely linked with the Jewish people and has its beginnings in the Old Testament.

The first three three and half year of the Tribulation coincides with and comes soon after a peace covenant the Antichrist confirms with Israel and the Middle East with endorsement by the UN. This enables the Jews to fulfill their dream to build their third temple without harassment.

The second half of the Tribulation, the period between the mid-point and the end of the Tribulation is called the Great Tribulation. This is when God's wrath is poured out in a series of successive '7 Trumpets' and '7 Bowls' of wrath judgments. The Tribulation is described in great detail in Revelation, which is the 66th, last and final book of the Bible, also containing the '666' number of the Antichrist, where '6' is aptly the number of man. It describes a time when sinful man will be brought down and Christ will return in His Second Coming, set up the Millennial Kingdom and take His rightful place to reign over a restored earth that was the original plan in the garden of Eden in Genesis. Mankind essentially comes full circle to a picture of Paradise on earth.

Revelation is a New Testament book read by Christians but rejected by Jews. The prophecies therein will become critical to the Jews in the End Times. The focus on many areas Jewish in Revelation such as the 144,000 of all the tribes of the children of Israel that are sealed to follow the Lamb (Rev 7:4,14:1) all the way to the end of the current heavens and planet earth as we know it, with the arrival of the New Jerusalem (Rev 21:1-3) and its twelve gates with the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel written on them (Rev 21:12) and so forth strongly suggests that Israel and Jews will be signficant global actors come the end. Even the framing of days, months and years in Revelation do not follow the world's Gregorian calendar but instead follows the Jewish calendar; 30 days to a month and 360 days to a year. The Two Witnesses (Rev 11:3) will prophesy for 1,260 days which is 42 months or three and half Jewish years of the 7 years of Tribulation. It will be after all the time of Jacob's trouble which is Israel's trouble, noting that God renamed Jacob to Israel in Gen 32:27-28.

The Old and New Testament is predominantly written against a Jewish backdrop, themes and timeline. Israel is God's wife (Jer 3:14) and hence, He specially favors the Jews. God sent a Jewish Savior first to His wife to redeem her but when the Jews rejected Jesus the Sacrificial Lamb, God provokes them to jealousy (Rom 11:11) and "salvation is come unto the Gentiles" out of which the church of Jesus Christ was formed. Over mankind's history, God has implemented a parallel track of salvation for Jews and Gentiles and this will converge at the Tribulation.

THE 7-YEAR TIME FRAME WILL ACCOMPLISH FIVE CRITICAL OUTCOMES

God will unleash catastrophic plagues upon an unrepentant, wicked world that blasphemes the God of Israel and rejects His Son Jesus as Lord and Savior. (1 John 2:22)

  • "And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible." Isa 13:11
  • "2 Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Howl ye, Woe worth the day! 3 For the day is near, even the day of the Lord is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen." Eze 30:2-3
  • "1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us." Ps 2:1-3
  • "7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power;" 2 Thess 1:7-9

God will severely judge all nations for their enmity towards His chosen people the Jews.

  • "2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." Zec 12:2-3
  • "1 Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, And do not be still, O God! 2 For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; And those who hate You have lifted up their head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more." 5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You:" Ps 83:1-5
  • "3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when He fought in the day of battle. 4 And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south." Zec 14:3-4

God has an unbreakable covenant with Israel and will use the trials of the Tribulation to draw the Jews back to Him.

  • "37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord." Matt 23:37-39
  • "8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. 9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on My Name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is My people: and they shall say, The Lord is My God." Zec 13:8-9
  • "3 And it shall come to pass that he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy — everyone who is recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning," Isa 4:3-4

God will avenge the Great Tribulation martyrs.

  • "And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?" Rev 6:9-10

  • "9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; ... 13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." Rev 7:9, 13-14

  • "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years." Rev 20:4

Jesus will establish His 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom reign on earth from modern day Jerusalem and rule over over His chosen 'sheep' out of the Great Tribulation and as well, the Jewish redeemed whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

  • "5 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His Name whereby He shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness." Jer 23:5-6
  • "31 When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: 32 And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:" Matt 25:31-34
  • "And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles." Zec 14:16
