God's full wrath will be unleashed on an ungodly generation, a time never before and never again in mankind's history

A number of passages from prophecies in the Old Testament through to the New Testament speak of the Day of the Lord.
It is a day of God’s judgment and wrath that begins in earnest with the Great Tribulation, a three and half year period when God will permit Satan to possess a man the Bible terms the Antichrist (Dan 7:8, 1 John 2:18) having the spirit of antichrist (1 John 2:18, 1 John 4:3). The Bible calls him "that man of sin, the son of perdition" (2 Thess 2:3). He will be supernaturally empowered to rally the ungodly and God will allow him to hatefully come against every person that is chosen by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (renamed Israel) and everyone saved into Christ. God will only intervene according to His will and purpose, but for most part during this time, will allow the Antichrist to persecute and overcome God's chosen (Rev 13:7).
In the day of the Lord, Jesus will judge all the ungodly from all over the world that will be filled with the antichrist spirit, united by their hatred towards God's people. The day will be of Biblical magnitude. It will be supernatural and cannot be explained as anything but that.
WHY IS IT CALLED THE DAY OF THE LORD (2 Peter 3:10)?
We are told in 2 Peter 3:8 not to be ignorant of this one thing, "that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."?
Our perspective of time is finite and measured in 'earth time' in human years. Most people live until the ripe old age of 80 or 90 whereas God exists in His 'ever present' time that had no beginning and has no end. Our 1,000 human years are but 1 day and even much, much less to God. If the Bible should write that "0.0000000000000000001 day is with the Lord as a thousand years", we would not be able to grasp the meaning of that. Add another trillion zeroes for accuracy to truly contextualize God’s eternal time compared to our finite perspective.
Since the first man Adam, an estimated 6,000 years have passed which is '6 days' to God. God has granted these '6 days' for man on earth. In the Bible, the number 6 denotes the number of man (Rev 13:18). So when God’s day of judgment arrives, God’s 'day' called the Day of the Lord takes place and immediately starts off the Millennial Kingdom thousand year reign (one God day) of Christ on earth.
2 Peter 3:7,9-13 provides a 2-minute reading of the Day of the Lord. Let’s ponder the heart and mind of God and His intentions. What can we learn from this decisive passage?
"7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells." 2 Peter 3:7,9-13
1. "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." v7
Very clearly, the heavens (plural) and Planet Earth as we know it, is still revolving around the sun while we calmly read this where the ground is not shaking beneath our feet. They are being "reserved" by God for the fiery Day of the Lord, for the "judgment" and eternal punishment of "ungodly men".
"ungodly" is the all encompassing word that includes every person that is against the one true God and His Son Jesus, or who does not believe in Him as their Savior who died for their sins. We may ask, given the world’s major religions, is it not the case that many believe in God but from their own religious perspective?
Consider that Christianity is the only faith in the world where God has a Son Jesus whom He sent to earth to be crucified as a sin offering (John 3:16-17). Christianity is the only faith where God grants us the mercy to be saved from His wrath of eternal damnation, where we are completey forgiven by grace and not by our works or effort (Eph 2:8-9). All we need to do is truly repent of our sins and truly believe in our heart that Jesus is the propitiation for our sins (Acts 4:12, John 1:12-13). There are many more verses that empasize salvation through the atoning work of Jesus which are easily searchable online. Even the most charitable, kindest and best behaved person on earth who declines Jesus, will be found in sin and cast into the Lake of Fire.
This is the sticking point for many people who find it difficult to rationalize and accept that a loving God would send a good person to Hell. Rom 3:10-12 speaks to the contrrary. Man has based his goodness and righteousness according to human standards. In the first place, these standards are not even standardized across the world. For example, bestiality which is sexual intercourse with animals is such an abominable act and yet it is legal in a number of so-called 'civilized' first world nations. At the moment, right and wrong is dependent on the so-called righteous standards of man that refuses to abide by God’s perfect and holy standards. Hence, God’s judgment must take place.
By all measure, God is completely fair and applies His laws and statutes without fear or favor to ALL man across ALL generations across ALL time. His righteous commandments have not changed one bit because His holiness and righteousness are in a state of absolute, Godly perfection.
2. "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." v9
Some people have wondered why God has allowed the wicked to prosper and not do anything about it. For example, one Hitler allowed to go about his wicked ways is one too many. Why did God not prevent Hitler from murdering six million Jews? Why was he allowed to even murder the first person? Why are there people who hurt other people and get away with it while the heavenly Judge witnesses this but is seemingly indifferent?
God does not close an eye and neither is He blind to EVERYTHING that takes place on earth, even in the darkest, most hidden chambers of a room. God sees all and He will act but in His time. His ways and His thoughts are above ours (Isa 55:8-9). If God is to immediatlely respond to every sinful act with extreme justice, there will be no person alive within days of man's life.
God is Love and in the meantime, He is longsuffering and holds back His hand. He permits the passing of time as an act of mercy as He waits for even the worst of sinners to come to repentance through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Be assured that Hitler is being punished (present continuous tense) in Hell ever since God called time on his life on earth. This is not just a lifetime imprisonment or execution of Hitler if he had stood before the International Criminal Court but it is an eternal torment with fire and brimstone in the Lake of Fire. Yes, wicked men do prosper but only for a time. God will mete out the punishment in His time, be assured of that and ALL ungodly people will be judged at the Great White Throne (Rev 20:11-15).
3. "the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night," v10
Bible prophecy has stated that the Day of the Lord will take place just like a thief that strikes unannounced.
4. "10 the heavens will pass away with a great noise … 12 the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire," v10,12
The Bible writes of three heavens, the lowest of which is the immediate Atmosphere, what we see when we look up to the sky and clouds (James 5:18). From the surface of the planet, it extends approx 20 miles above. This is the space that airplanes and birds fly and where God's angels and Satan and the fallen angels travel.
There is the Second Heaven which is known as outer space where the sun, moon and stars are in our galaxy known as the Milky Way (Deut 4:19, Matt 24:29). Beyond the two heavens is the Third Heaven where God resides (2 Cor 12:2, Deut 10:14, Ps 148:4). It is the two 'lower' heavens that will be dramatically dissolved with fire.
5. "10, 12 the elements will melt with fervent heat; 10 both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up … 11 all these things will be dissolved," v10-12
Planet Earth as we know it, will be burned up and dissolved. This will happen in an instant. Isa 51:6 says,"for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment," and in Isa 34:4 "all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree."
If you have not repented to God for your sins and upon reading this, your heart is feeling the conviction of not wanting to be on the wrong side of God and Christ, call out to Him. Then wait for Him to respond to lead you. God’s providence for you might already been ordained before creation, before you were born.
Version 23.1.0
THE DAY OF THE LORD signals the end of "man's day" and it will take place as both "a day" and "a designated short period". It signals the end of "man's day" and for the Lord to have His day to accomplish four critical outcomes of which Outcomes 1 and 2 are not independent of one another:
Outcome 1. The cataclysmic global judgment of the sin of all nations who because of global injustice against the Jews, God's chosen people (Zec 12:3, Rom 9:4).
Outcome 2. The devastating worldwide judgment of ungodly, unrepentant sinners (the heathen) who up to that time, will blaspheme Jesus and reject Him as Lord and Savior (Isa 13:11, 2 Pet 3:7).
Outcome 3. The deliverance of a remnant of Jews in israel thus fulfilling God's covenant with Jacob. Up to the Tribulation, this remnant are spiritually blind as to who Jesus is. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life will have their eyes open to realize that Jesus is their Messiah Savior and they will be redeemed (Zec 13:8-9, Rom 9:27).
Outcome 4. The lead up to the establishment of the 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom rule of Jesus on earth from Jerusalem and subsequently, eternal rule of Christ over His redeemed saints (Dan 2:44,Rev 20:4).
Sno | Verses | Remarks |
1 | "7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But THE DAY OF THE LORD will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." 2 Peter 3:7-10 | God has decided the end of the world, ahead of time. There will be a day when the current heavens and earth as we know it will be burned by fire and will be no more. No one can accuse God of being cruel. God's mercy is evident by His patience and longsuffering. From the time God sent Jesus to be crucified by man for man's sins, two thousand years has passed and everyone has been given opportunity during their lifetime to recognize God for the Creator that He is and Jesus as His Son sent. However, God has determined a time when mankind's days on earth will be complete. The souls of ungodly man through the ages will be judged and cast into eternal damnation. This sin-cursed world is basically an unclean planet which will one day be no longer needed for human habitation and together with the current heavens, will be melted by fire. |
2 | "9 Behold, THE DAY OF THE LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible." Isa 13:9-11 | The day of the Lord is a day of God's wrath, plain and simple. There is no ambiguity. The fullest extent of God's fury will be directed against an ungodly generation that represents all ungodliness throughout mankind's history. The day is both a literal day as well as a short space of time leading up to Christ's Second Coming. The day of the Lord will be quick but will feel like an eternity for those in it. God has longsuffered the iniquity of man. The cup of God's wrath is overflowing and at His appointed time, He will unleash His righteous anger to its extreme fullness. This will take place during the one time in man's history called the Great Tribulation which spans the second three and half years of the Tribulation.. God has the power to cast Satan, the Antichrist and False Prophet into the lake of fire and will make light work of even the mightiest of man and machine. The destructive power of tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and the worst of the worst weather conditions ever recorded will pale in comparison to the power of God and the plagues that come in the day of the Lord's wrath. |
3 | "Alas for the day! for THE DAY OF THE LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come." Joel 1:15, Isa 13:6 "For this is THE DAY OF THE LORD GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of His adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates." Jer 46:10 "The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has executed and accomplished the intentions of His mind. In the latter days you will understand this." Jer 30:24 |
From some 6,000 years ago for as long as the earth is populated with man, there have been sinners; evil and wicked, arrogant and proud, lawless people who have cursed, blasphemed God and rejected Jesus. How is it different this time around that there is a day of the Lord's vengeance defined? The 'day of man' where man had been given dominion over the earth (Gen 1:26-28) will be over and the Lord will take it back to rule. He will want to purge the earth of all people that reject His Name and will only welcome those who willingly bow their knee to Him into His Millennial Kingdom reign. |
4 | "4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle. 5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land. 6 Howl ye; for THE DAY OF THE LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: 8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. 9 Behold, THE DAY OF THE LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it." Isa 13:4-9 | It is a time of global destruction where over 4,000,000,000 people, or over half of the world's current population (as of Y2022) will perish by the time God's bowls of wrath are executed in quick, intense succession (Rev 16:1) |
5 | "His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear his threshing floor and gather His wheat into the barn, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." Matt 3:12 | The agricultural imagery God uses here is a familiar one. The farmers today use heavy machinery to gather and store wheat in storage facilities (the modern day barn) to be used for various foods such as bread, pastries and pasta. The chaff is inedible and there is little purpose for it and will be disposed of. |
6 | "1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that THE DAY OF THE LORD so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ," 1 Thess 5:2-9 | Paul was speaking regarding the "sudden destruction" of the ungodly in the day of the Lord. Paul identifies two distinct groups of people, namely the "ye, you, yourselves, we" group of Thessalonian believers that is separate from the "they, them" group comprising the ungodly. Paul tells the believers that they "know perfectly" and are "not of the night, nor of darkness". This group is told to "watch and be sober" and if this be the case, to look for impending signposts that point to how close the day of the Lord will be. In the final analysis, the day of the Lord will not overtake believers as a thief in the night unlike the unbelievers who "shall not escape" the day of the Lord because they are "drunken" children of the night and of darkness, in a time of seeming "peace and safety" which is in the first three and half years of the Tribulation before the Antichrist is revealed and the wrath of God is not yet unleashed. Critical points to note for believers. 1. In 1 Thess 1:6, believers are to "watch and be sober". We know in advance that a man will rise on the world stage and unlike others before him, he will be successful in forging "peace and safety" (1 Thess 5:3, Dan 9:27) between Israel and her sworn Middle Eastern enemies. This gives a false sense that all will be well henceforth. Israel will let her guard down and that's when the sudden and unexpected happens. Those who are aware of this signpost will not be caught unaware by a sudden occurence of the day of the Lord which comes after the Antichrist arises. 2. The breastplate and helmet protect our heart and our mind from being swayed by untruths put out to deceive, mislead and distort. We are already saved and 1 Thess 5:9 affirms that born again Christians have the assurance of deliverance, preservation and safety (Strongs G4991) as we will be raptured by Christ before the Tribulation begins. |
WHO IS THE DAY OF THE LORD DIRECTED AT? | ||
1 | "For the day is near, even THE DAY OF THE LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen." Eze 30:3 "1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us." Ps 2:1-3 |
Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, the heathen refers to unbelievers who reject Jesus as Lord and Savior. Eze 30:3 cannot be any clearer than that. The day of the Lord is not meant for believers but it is directed at the heathen". This dispels the view of some Christians who hold to a post-tribulation view that born again believers will go through the Tribulation. |
2 | "4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming." Col 3:4-6 "17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness." Eph 4:17-19 |
Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, there are all types of sinful behavior but here in Col 3:4-6, a particular set of earthly behaviors is described as the reason why the Great Tribulation and the day of the Lord must take place. Eph 4:17-19 requires us to lead lives that will be distinctly different from the Gentiles that we once were, and be aligned to God's instructions for holy and righteous living (1 Peter 1:15-16) |
3 | "1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith." 2 Tim 3:1-8 | Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, this is another passage explaining why God will judge the world severely. The entire list found on 2 Tim 3:1-8 is already evident globally indicating that we are already living in the peril of the last days. Of greatest significance is the signpost that people are lovers of pleasure than lovers of God, appearing to be religious but only at a superficial level. Europe was once the centre of Christianity but today, it is only culturally Christian in name. While in the US, many churches have deviated from the Lord's Great Commission and have put on the mind of the world most notably in its embrace of the social gospel, humanism and universalism. The world's heroes are the Pope, Obama and Elon Musk. What they stand for resonates with the world. Biblical Christianity does not. Many Protestant churches engage in pseudo-Christianity where the focus is on man, to live 'Your Best Life Now' (Ps Joel Osteen) and seek creature comforts. It has become no different from pagans who present prayers and offerings to their gods for plentiful harvest from the land and from the sea. |
4 | "18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things." Rom 1:18-23 | Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, can a person headed for the lake of fire plead immunity from God's judgment at the great white throne because no one shared the Gospel with him? Rom 1:19-20 says that no one can be excused because God's fingerprint is clearly found on all of creation and especially the miracle of man as living beings with a soul and intellect. Man did not evolve from primates or single cell organisms as evolutionists theorize and the world was not conceived 4.5 billion years ago as put forward by the California Institute of Technology. Man proudly does not want to acknowledge and glorify God but instead elevates humanistic thinking. One must wonder as to why man glorifies man that is mortal, grows old and wrinkled or can suddenly collapse in a heap when his heart fails him, let alone a bird, an animal or a creeping creature that can be kept in a zoo, hunted and sold as food in the supermarket? |
5 | "12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon." Rev 16:12-16 "The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant." Isa 24:5 |
Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, the 6th vial of wrath in the final wave of God's judgment is poured. This paves the way for the battle of Armageddon which will be the largest war on a scale that is far greater than all the wars combined in mankind's history. But this will be a war that is significant for three reasons: 1. Satan once rallied one third of the angels to rebel against God and he was badly defeated by Michael and the angels loyal to God. Satan is attempting once more but this time it is on earth. 2. The combined armies of the world will look impressive and formidable but it will be one-sided with only one outcome; the Lord is God and it will be a futile attempt by Satan, the Antichrist and the False Prophet. 3. It will be the shortest war ever because the Lord will destroy His enemies in a nano second the moment they begin the attack. |
6 | "17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great." Rev 19:17-18 | Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, before Christ's Second Coming, the supper of God takes place on earth. Where Adam and man is supposed to have dominion over the fowl of the air (Gen 1:26), God humiliates rebellious man by letting the unclean fowls of the air 'have dominion' over man and tear the flesh of kings, captains and mighty men to bits. Ezekiel first prophesies this supper of God that will be on earth taking place at the Lord's Second Coming AFTER the marriage supper of the Lamb to His bride the church. This event contrasts with the event in heaven as it is obviously filled with God's wrath and there is utter carnage, violence and is bloody. Five critical references are used in Rev 19:17-18 that contrasts with Rev 19:7-9: 1. This supper has nothing to do with marriage but it is voracious devouring 2. It is hosted by God for unclean fowls of the air as the guests 3. It is a gruesome and violent event 4. It brings low the supposedly high position and authority of kings and mighty men 5. It takes place on earth |
7 | "1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain: ("Thy city Jerusalem, Thy holy mountain:" Dan 9:16) let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for THE DAY OF THE LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations." Joel 2:1-2 "I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; ... Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God: for THE DAY OF THE LORD is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, He hath bid His guests." Zep 1:4,7 |
Directed at modern day apostate Israel, Jerusalem and Israel are smack in the middle of the narrative regarding the day of the Lord. Modern day Israel is apostate and the day of the Lord has as one of its primary purposes, the redemption of a remnant of Jews to be baptized into one body with the church of Jesus. (1 Cor 12:13) This will be the worst ever event for Israel that is coming and will occur only once in mankind's entire history. Joel 2:1-11 describes a great and formidable army marching against Israel, so large and strong that Israel will be facing its greatest threat to its existence since its founding in 1948 and facing total wipe-out and extinction, and will require a miracle in order that they may be saved. |
8 | "1 I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the Lord. 2 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord." Zep 1:2-3 | Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, the 'consuming' fire of God's judgment will be on all that is living in the day of the Lord. |
9 | "1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see ... 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible." Isa 13:1,11 "The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;" Jer 46:1 "15 For THE DAY OF THE LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 16 For as ye have drunk upon My holy mountain, ("Thy city Jerusalem, Thy holy mountain:" Dan 9:16) so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been." Oba 1:15-16 |
Directed at the ungodly Gentile world. Isa 13:1,11 cannot be any clearer as to whom the Lord will punish. It will be on a global scale and the ungodly will not escape. The wealthy who think they are safe and well hidden in their doomsday bunkers will be as exposed as the one on the surface. |
10 | "9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: 10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. 11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord. 12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. 13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for THE DAY OF THE LORD is near in the valley of decision." Joel 3:9-14 "For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for My people and for My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land." Joel 3:1-2 |
Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, the Lord will put Israel into an impossible corner, their back against the wall, in order tofor Israel to realize that their very existence is at stake. |
11 | "1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch ... 4 Remember ye the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful DAY OF THE LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." Mal 4:1,4-6 | Directed at the ungodly Gentile world, "the proud" are too proud to bow their knee to Jesus and they have been singled out to be consumed by fire. Elijah will be the prophet God sends. Will he be one of the Two Witnesses in the Tribulation? Elijah was taken up to heaven in human form 2 Kings 2:11. He did not die a natural death on earth but the Bible says that every person must undergo this step. We know that in Rev 11:7, the Two Witnesses are killed by the beast, a strong demon from the bottomless pit. |
