The three and a half year Great Tribulation begins when the antichrist "man of sin" "son of perdition" (2 Thess 2:3-4) is revealed as the beast of Revelation, a man possessed by Satan. This man will demand to be worshipped as God and will rule the world. This will be the start of a reign of terror against Israel and anyone who will not bow down to him or take his '666' mark (Rev 13:16-18). This is covered in greater detail in the section 'TR2. The Antichrist and the False Prophet.
At the end of the antichrist's reign, God has ordained for the glorious return of Jesus in the Second Coming and the setting up of the Lord' Millennial Kingdom reign on earth.
There will be key events that take place.
1. Israel and its mighty army will be attacked and overrun by the beast of Revelation and a global army filled with the rage of the antichrist spirit. Two thirds of Israel will perish in what the Bible refers to as "the time of Jacob's trouble" (Zec 13:8-9). Why will God permit this? Israel had rejected Jesus as Messiah when He first came some 2,000 years ago. A future time will come when the Lord will return and turn the hearts of His chosen one third to Him (Dan 12:1). Their eyes will be opened to realize that Jesus is in fact their long awaited Messiah Savior, which for Christians, is Christ' Second Coming.
2. At the end of the Great Tribulation, Christ will effortlessly crush all worldly rebellion against Him and Almighty God, and cast the antichrist beast and his wingman, the false prophet into the eternal damnation of the Lake of Fire (Rev 19:20).
3. At the same time, the Lord will send an angel to bind Satan in chains and cast him into the bottomless pit for a thousand years (Rev 20:1-3). The enemy’s power is curtailed and for the first time since the first man Adam, sinners can no longer excuse themselves by saying that, "the devil made me do it". These 1,000 years will coincide with the 1,000 year Millennial Kinngdom reign of Christ on earth from Jerusalem.
4. The Millennial Kingdom will need to be populated with righteous people. Where will they come from? For this, Jesus will summon before Him, the peoples of all the nations who are alive at that point and will judge them according to their works (Matt 25:32-33). He will set aside the sheep for His Kingdom reign on earth as its new citizens (Matt 16:27). The "sheep" people had courageously helped the fleeing Jews by hiding them and providing accommodation and medical care and even visiting the imprisoned Jews at the risk of their own lives (Matt 25:34-40). Their further reward is eternal salvation in the New Heaven and New Earth. (Matt 25:46)
5. For reasons opposite to the actions of the "sheep" people, the "goat" people (Matt 25:41-45) will be cast into the Lake of Fire to be eternally damned (Matt 25:46).
6. After this, the 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom reign of Christ on earth begins from His throne in modern day Jerusalem with the "sheep" as its joyful first citizens.

Sno | Verses | Remarks |
1 |
"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book." Dan 12:1 "4 Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah. 7 Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it. 8 'For it shall come to pass in that day,' Says the Lord of hosts, … 9 But they shall serve the Lord their God, And David their king, Whom I will raise up for them. " Jer 30:4,8-9 |
There are three entities that are written of, namely Michael the archangel, Daniel a Jew who was a prophet of God and "the children of thy people", the descendants of the Jews in Daniel’s time. The setting will be "a time of (Jacob’s) trouble" in the future unlike any time in the history of Israel and the world right up to that moment. It will be real nasty but God will not forsake those who are His, most specifically, "every one that shall be found written in the book". This book is the Lamb’s Book of Life containing every name of every soul that God has predestinated to be saved to be His people (Rom 8:29-30). |
2 | "6 And one shall say unto Him, What are these wounds in Thine hands? Then He shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of My friends. 8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. 9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on My Name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is My people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God." Zec 13:6,8-9 |
Zec 13 is a prophecy of a day when the Jews will reject Jesus as their Messiah and have Him crucified. However, God made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob which would preserve the Jews as a people through time. This will be the case during the "a time of trouble" (Dan 12:1) called the Great Tribulation when the Lord will save a third of Jews. God will open their eyes to see Jesus as the Savior of their lives out of physical death and the Savior of their souls (Zec 13:9) for eternal life. Through Dan 12;1 and Zec 13, we have the first part of the answer to 'Who enters the Millennial Kingdom?' |
3 | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory." Matt 25:31 | The second part of the answer to 'Who enters the Millennial Kingdom?' is found in Matt 25. The quick answer is, an unspecified number of Gentiles that God has pre-ordained to be saved in Christ that will fearlessly resist the beast of Revelation and not take his '666' mark. A quick back story … the first time that Jesus stepped on earth was in His First Coming. He was born a baby in a feeding trough for horses in stable, to a homemaker called Mary and her husband Joseph, a simple craftsman likely a carpenter, and led a simple, humble life. Jesus will come again in His Second Coming, but this time, as the God-King in splendor, leading the holy angels (as to distinguish them from the fallen angels that follow Satan). King Jesus will set up His throne in modern day Jerusalem to reign on earth in what is known as the Millennial Kingdom, for a thousand earth years. The citizens of the Millennial Kingdom will see Jesus in 'bodily' form even as He is gloriously God, possessing all the magnificence and power of the Almighty as written in the Bible. |
4 | "32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' 37 'Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40 And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' " Matt 25:32-40 | Who will make up this elect group of Gentiles? They will be the "sheep" who risked their lives, under the power of the Holy Spirit, to rescue and protect the elect Jews spoken of in Dan 12:1 who will be hunted and persecuted by the beast. We are told that they will give food and drink, and house and clothe the Lord’s people who are in need. The sheep even visit the imprisoned Jews. Notice that in this passage, it does not speak of ministry service to the poor and under privileged of society. This is reinforced by a critical theological point and that is, salvation is not by works. The Gentiles are not converted Christian believers but will be ,like Ruth in Ruth 1:16, a Gentile who said to Naomi her Jewish mother-in-law, "Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God." and this was credited to her as righteousness by God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who was renamed Israel (Gen 32:28). That is why in Matt 25:37 the King calls "the sheep" "the righteous" and they will enter the Millennial Kingdom as its new citizens but will also inherit eternal life with God (Matt 25:46) in the New Heaven and New Earth. |
5 | "41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.' 44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' 45 Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did NOT do it to Me.' 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Matt 25:41-46 (capitals added) | We read in Matt 25:33, that "the goats" were separated to the left hand of King Jesus to be cast into the lake of fire. The goats will not risk their lives nor attend to the Jews the way the sheep will. It could be that the goats include beast followers, or people who will fear for their own lives, or simply have no heart for the Jews. Based on God’s providence, the sheep are ordained for the Millennial Kingdom and He also knows who will respond like the goats come the time of Jacob’s trouble spoken of in Jer 30:7 and the parallel verse in Dan 12:1. |
